Initiated by the Career Club, a student committee at the Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL), the Young Hoteliers Summit 2010 provided a unique opportunity for participants to exchange knowledge and ideas, demonstrate their skills through a friendly competition and add to their professional network. Held at the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne on the 28th and 29th January 2010, the YHS was the first student run hospitality summit bringing together students from prestigious hotel schools around the world. YHS featured a competition amongst teams composed of members from different participating schools competing against each other to give solution to a Creativity Challenge proposed by the Jumeirah Group: “In the face of an overall decrease in demand, how to boost occupancy levels in luxury hotels without pushing prices lower?” The Creatitivity Challenge was supported by BrainStore, an idea generating company, which gave students the opportunity to collectively brainstorm an innovative solution. In addition, an enriching program of presentations, panels and workshops was organized around the topics raised in the Creativity Challenge. Not only did the YHS benefit students with a rich learning experience outside of the class room, it also provided industry professionals the chance to interact and exchange views with future talents of the hospitality industry

YHS 2011 in the pipeline It is with great pleasure that we would like to announce that the next Young Hoteliers Summit will be taking place officially on March 21st and 22nd, 2011 at EHL! We are now in the planning process and our current focus is on finding the appropriate company to provide a case study. The next stages will include looking for potential sponsors and approaching various universities for participation in the event.
